Euphorbia hirta, Acche Gida

Euphorbia hirta also called as Hairy Spurge or Asthama Plant.

Kannada Name: Agache gida(ಅಗಚೆ ಗಿಡ), Haaluni (ಹಾಲುಣಿ), Kempu nene akki (ಕೆಂಪು ನೆನೆ ಅಕ್ಕಿ)


This plant is a tropical weed commonly grows in India. Leaves are simple elliptical and hairy. Plant grows 50 to 60 cm long and stem produces latex.

The leaves and latex has medicinal values.

Solanum Indicum, Kirugulla

Solanum Indicum is also known as Poision Berry.
Kannada Name: Kirugulla (ಕಿರುಗುಳ್ಳ )(Sanskrit: kantikari)




There are more than 1000 species in Solanum Genus. Some of them are edible (Ex. tomato, potato, Brinjal (eggplant) etc. and some of them are medicinal plants (Ex. seeds, fruit and roots are used)

Solanum Indicum is commonly available thrughout India, Shri Lanka.

 This plant has thorns in leaves, stem and stalks. Flowers are Violet or Yellow or White in colour.
It is a 2-3ft tall plant grows in warm environment.

Ixora coccinea, Gudde Dosala, Kirugare

Ixora coccinea also known as jungle geranium or jungle flame.
Kannada Name: Gudde Dosala (ಗುಡ್ಡೆ ದೊಸಳ), Kirugare (ಕಿಸುಗಾರೆ)




It is a flowering shrub native to Southern India and Sri Lanka.

Ixora is a multi branched ever green shrub with small tubular flowers with dense rounded cluster structures. 
It produces flower throughout the year however rainy season produces more compared to other seasons


Colours: Red, Yellow, Pink, White, violet shaded pink, orange

Cultivation: For gardening purpose, Decoration plant in pots

Height: 1.2–2 m (at least 1ft depth pots are required for potting)

Environment: Bright light, warm climate

Sicklepod, Togache

English = Sicklepod
Kannada = Togache, Gandu Togache


It is a weed looks like ground nut (peanut) plant. Flowers and leaves are similar. Unlike peanut plant it grows straight and long deep mother root. Fruits are like beans fruit. Inedible. Smells like pungent body Oder. Spreads rapidly with seeds during summer and start growing in rainy season. Remove when it young.

This plant is also known as Indian mallow and velvetleaf.
Flowers are most often yellow or orange filled with nectar juice.
This plant is called as Tuththi Gida in Kannada (ತುತ್ತಿ ಗಿಡ)














Flowers are Edible. Leaves used for Ayurvedic medicinal purpose specially for lungs and chest pain.
Smash the leaves and rub the place where pain is concentrated.

Small infestations can be controlled through hand weeding; repeated weeding is required because the plant is stoloniferous and will continue to spread from its roots or bits of stem which reroot.
